One of the latest things coming from the EU is Article 45. Overall this is a terrible thing that could allow for encryption to become almost useless. It would allow for Certificate Authorities to work with the government to examine traffic that should be encrypted.
Ultimately while HTTPS is not a super strong encryption it is still very effective. This allows for browsing the internet with some amount of safety. The biggest problem with this is that there is no stopping how much or when it could be examined. This would mean that they could find out usernames and passwords from everything.
Overall I would recommend taking a look at the Mozilla website trying to get this reversed: https://last-chance-for-eidas.org/
