We are getting to the end of January and things are certainly beginning to pick up in the world of tech. With a change of Presidents there are always some change-ups happening.

TikTok

Ultimately the biggest thing we have seen lately is the TikTok ban being held off a little longer. One of the big things in the Supreme Court was around whether or not an algorithm is free speech which is an interesting question to ask in general. Overall it brings up a discussion. Personally I feel as though it is purely intellectual property to provide something. This is really something that is just providing you content based on things you have liked.

CubeFS

Well CubeFS graduated in the CNCF process last week which means it has a new storage system available:

Cloud Native Computing Now Has Its Own File System: CubeFS
CubeFS is especially attuned to the separation of storage/compute architecture for databases, search systems, and AI/ML applications.

Overall I have worked with Longhorn and Rook a lot in the past and even tried to mess with GlusterFS. I am planning to deploy this sometime soon and do a bigger write up and show and tell on it. Overall it is exciting though. I enjoy when there are multiple options for something like this as it gives the opportunity for each to begin to excel at different items.

DataCenter Fun

So I had one of my SSDs in a zpool on one of my ProxMox hosts start to throw errors last week. Never a fun email to wake up to. Ultimately it is mirrored so the other drive can handle everything but obviously want to get things replaced quickly. 45Drives came through and got me a new drive quickly. After a quick trip to the DataCenter and letting it quickly rebuild it was as good as new.

Overall 45Drives has been super helpful in running this. Just in being able to have someone to help provide a managed type of system to it.
