So is there a point where Infrastructure as Code just becomes too much? We have Terraform adding so many providers to help support different systems so that everything can be "As Code". Don't get me wrong I prefer Configuration as Code rather than Click-Ops.
However I feel like adding more and more support with Terraform is going to slow a lot of brand new hobby-esque apps down. Rather than worrying about making your app repeatable shouldn't be the concern. Getting your app up and running should be the main idea and then once you have traction you can spend time re-creating things.
RTO
As many of us have heard or are potentially experiencing Return To Office is becoming more and more of a thing. AT&T and Amazon are among the latest. It has seemed to go over not well. Many AT&T employees showed up and had no place to sit. Some were working in the cafeteria and others were just unable to work during the week since there was no space for them.
Some people have been enjoying the RTO policies. There is certainly the benefit of having a very clear line between work and home. This can certainly be something that tends to be difficult when working from home.
Overall I still prefer working from home. I am fortunate to have a specific place for work which helps to ease the overall transition. I do absolutely see companies on both sides existing and people having a preference on which one they prefer.
HomeLab
So this past weekend I got to spend some time working on my HomeLab. I got a Dell VRTX with storage and compute and everything. This past weekend I spent some time re-configuring it and really setting it up.
I installed ProxMox and normally I really enjoy using the Ceph storage driver just to really provide some true High Availability I ended up just setting drives up as ZFS storage. Ultimately this was just taking the easy route, but without a third node to add to this cluster Ceph is difficult to do since it would never reach quorum.
Currently Plex has been setup and I have some other things that I am looking towards setting up already. Overall excited about some of the other items I am working on setting up. Will have some more blog posts as I go through them.
Conclusion
That is it for this week of The VPC Show. Will be starting to have this weekly and have a chance to just have some general discussions.
